On September 25, the Faculty of Creative Industries at HSE University took another step in building academic ties with China. The delegation visited Xi’an Technological University to discuss future cooperation — from joint programs to a forthcoming memorandum of understanding. Beyond formal talks, the visit was also about exchange and discovery. The HSE team explored local educational and cultural initiatives, gaining insight into how collaboration between the two universities could create new opportunities for students and faculty on both sides.
The agenda was rich and diverse. The two sides began by discussing prospects for academic cooperation — from dual-degree programs to joint projects. The delegation then toured the Xi’an campus and visited an exhibition of Inner Mongolian art and crafts, which showcased how traditional forms can coexist with contemporary design and become part of educational practice. This approach strongly resonates with HSE’s Faculty of Creative Industries, where much attention is given to cultural heritage, territorial branding, and the search for new ways to connect the past with the future.
A highlight of the visit was a lecture by Natalia Logutova, Deputy Director of the Institute for the Development of Creative Industries. She spoke to students about how digital platforms can help build a career in the creative industries — from developing a personal brand and portfolio to participating in international competitions. Using real-world examples, Logutova demonstrated how academic projects can address current industry challenges and open pathways to the global creative market.
This collaboration began back in the summer of 2024, with a key role played by Professor Zhang Hui, Vice Dean of the School of Art and Design at Xi’an Technological University. Professor Zhang served on the jury of the international video competition WOWMOSCOW, organized by the HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL and the Moscow City Tourism Committee. One of his students reached the finals, and Zhang Hui later conducted a master class as part of an art residency dedicated to film concepts about Moscow.

The collaboration continued to expand in May 2025, when students from Xi’an Technological University joined the HSE CREATIVE OPEN / Photoproject international photography contest, submitting over 100 works from China. Faculty members from Xi’an were also invited to serve on the competition jury.
Now, the two universities are preparing a Memorandum of Understanding that will facilitate the launch of joint academic and exhibition projects and open new avenues for research collaboration. For students and faculty alike, this means more international opportunities — from exchanges and internships to participation in large-scale cultural initiatives.
